Initial Consultation
If you are new to the Alexander Technique or if this is your first lesson with me, I like to schedule a slightly longer first appointment.
This enables us to fully discuss your situation, go through your medical history if relevant and make sure that you understand how lessons work and how best for you to progress between lessons.

Here are answers to many of the questions that people have about lessons
If you need further help then feel free to give me a call or send an email.
Yes, Cherry Holt Avenue always has plenty of on-street parking right outside the studio.
While a single lesson provides insight, the Technique is a skill that develops over time. Most students find a course of 10–20 lessons helps establish lasting change. The NHS back pain study found that a course of 6 lessons was effective in significantly reducing pain.
Initially, most students find that one lesson per week provides the best momentum for learning. As you become more skilled at applying the principles to your own daily life, you may choose to space lessons further apart.
Not at all. The Alexander Technique is beneficial for everyone—from young students and performers looking to improve their skills, to older adults wishing to maintain mobility and balance. There are many Alexander Technique Teachers still working in their 80’s and 90’s and some primary schools feature Alexander Technique sessions in their curriculum.
No. It is an educational process. I use gentle hands-on guidance to help you recognise and release habitual tension, but you remain fully clothed and active in the learning process.
Absolutely. If you are a musician, singer, or even a public speaker, we can work directly with your instrument or “tools of the trade.” Applying the Technique to the specific movements of playing or performing is a highly effective way to find more ease and improve your sound or delivery.
Yes. The Alexander Technique is a gentle, non-invasive approach. We don’t “force” the body into positions; instead, we work on releasing the tensions that often contribute to pain. However, it is always a good idea to inform me of any medical diagnoses during our initial consultation so we can tailor the work accordingly.
You would need to check with your individual insurance provider. I am registered with the CNHC so check with your doctor to see if you can be referred
Yes, Help Musicians are often able to fund a course of lessons for musicians and I am a registered BAPAM practitioner so you can ask to be referred to me for help.

From time to time, I may run group classes. If you would like to have a lesson as a pair, please get in touch to discuss. I will do my best to accommodate you.
If someone is unable to get to my teaching studio, I may be able to arrange to teach in their own home. This will incur an extra charge for travel time.
